Radiation Dose Reduction is Key Topic of Discussion at Symposium in France
Radiologists Say They're Counting on Software to Help Reduce Radiation from CT Machines
Incidents of radiation overdoses at U.S. hospitals prompted a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigation in 2009 and a revision of FDA radiation protection laws in 2010. While the new FDA regulations focus on the protocol of use and the training of the personnel using the scanners for computed tomography (CT) procedures, radiologists appear more concerned with finding solutions that have the ability to reduce the levels of radiation needed for a CT scan.
Evidence of the need for radiation dose reduction software was evident at the Volumetric Scanner Symposium in France last month. The majority of radiologists that attended the symposium agree radiation doses need to be reduced. More importantly, the results of an instant poll, taken during one of the symposium sessions, revealed that 72 percent of the session attendees are looking for a software solution to help them reduce radiation doses.
